A bingo hall in Lockport, New York has had $8,200 stolen from a safe by robbers. The Elks Lodge bingo hall at 6791 North Canal Road in Niagra County was raided some time on the night of Monday 10 August. The roots of Full Tilt Poker’s demise lie in the events that occurred on April 15th 2011 also known as Black Friday. On this day the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) swooped down the top three online poker companies in the world and ejected them from the US market by freezing their bank accounts and their URL’s preventing them from operating in the United States. In the wake of these measures the poker firms, Full Tilt, Poker Stars and Absolute Poker were forced to comply with the demands of the DOJ which included repaying their American clients all of the money that they had in their accounts and not marketing themselves in the US. In contravention of this deal Full Tilt Poker failed to pay back their former clients in the US and ended up having their gaming license suspended by the AGCC as a result. The public hearing in the swanky Belgravia neighbourhood of London was supposed to be a full and frank discussion of the issues affecting Full Tilt Poker but instead turned into a farce when the hearing was put behind closed doors after a request by the full Tilt lawyer. by Tuesday ,6 Sep 2011 The British Poker Awards are an excellent showcase for the massive talent that Britain has produced The British Poker Awards are getting closer and closer and the jury is still out as to which players are most likely to win. With a sterling performance from UK players at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2011 it is likely that there are going to be some new names mixed in with the old favourites. Players such as Jake Cody had a massive WSOP, winning over $800,000 for taking the winners bracelet in the $25,000 heads up no limit hold ‘em event. He has the nomination for Best Tournament Player and Best Online Player. These are going to be difficult to win however as there are some massive poker names nominated alongside him in the form of Sam Trickett and Roberto Romanello for the title of Best tournament Player. Trickett first shot to poker fame during the 2010 WSOP where he cashed in no less than 6 separate events and then went on to storm his way through Asia, first at the Aussie millions and then in China when he won a reputed one and a half million dollars from high stakes cash games alone. More recently he just made 11th place at the Epic Poker League’s (EPL) inaugural tournament for a prize of just under $50,000. Roberto Romanello is making a name for himself on the European Poker circuit. He won the World Poker Tour (WPT) Bratislava event earlier this year for a prize of $197,000 and the EPT Prague last year for a prize of $846,000. Managing to maintain the momentum, Trickett has been nominated in three categories this year. As well as the nomination for best Best Tournament Player he has the nominations for Best Cash Player and Best Social Media User. The Best cash Player is a massive title to win, other nominees include Roland de Wolfe and Richard Ashby. De Wolfe is a well known celebrity after having been playing on television’s Late Night Poker and at one point was the UK’s highest earning poker player. He is also the first player ever to win both WPT and EPT events which he did in 2006. Ashby holds a WSOP winners bracelet for taking the seven card stud event in 2010, he also won the Aussie millions. The field of British poker pros is really an ever expanding pool of some really big names and it seems that there are always new players coming along to make it look easy.

It is estimated that tens of millions of American citizens enjoyed playing poker online and thousands made their living from the game. An elite few were “fully sponsored pros” meaning that they were able to play with someone else’s money and split the profits. When the online game was taken away from citizens of the United States the thousands of men and women who depended on online poker for their livelihood were left without a source of income. Former online players have dealt with these changes in a number of ways. Some have left the United States for Canada and other countries where it is legal to play, others have gone to the local casinos to play in live tournaments and tables leading to a massive increase in the number of players playing live. One former fully sponsored pro poker player is Bryan Trischetta. The fact that he can’t play online anymore ensured that he had to start making regular visits to Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs casino room to make some money. “It’s a numbers game,” He says of poker, the game he used to play on as many as 10 tables at the same time. “The more you play, the better you do.” Bryan’s highest place finish since playing live casino tables was $3,176 for a 6th place finish at the Mohegan Sun which was the biggest tournament in the history of the casino. “Until Black Friday, I came here to get away,” Trischetta laments. “Now, I’m coming all the time, primarily to play the tournaments.” Trischetta is still looking to produce the kinds of results that he was able to come up with everyday online and has done well in the events held at the casino having cashed in three of the four biggest events the Mohegan Sun has held since Black Friday. Each time he cashed he made it to the final table coming seventh out of 119 in April for $1,154 and ninth out of 102 in May for $618 in the $285 buy-in events. There are many players in the same position as Bryan, all of them attempting to make a living in the casinos of the United states.
